Supporting organisations creating positive environmental change
We support environmental charities, NGOs, community organisations and social enterprises working at the forefront of nature recovery, climate resilience and thriving local communities.
Our consultants bring experience of landscape-scale programmes, including chalk grassland and hedgerow restoration, woodland creation and green corridor networks, regenerative farming projects. Recent and current clients range from small conservation charities to National Landscapes, National Parks and innovative environmental partnerships, with our support tailored to the needs of each organisation and the landscapes and communities they serve.
We are passionate about the opportunity to contribute our expertise to help unlock public and philanthropic funding and align environmental outcomes with wider social and economic benefits.
Our consultancy experience spans fundraising strategy and bid writing, programme and project development, stakeholder and community engagement, activity planning, and monitoring, evaluation and learning. We help clients shape ambitious, collaborative programmes, secure the resources to deliver them, and demonstrate the impact of nature‑based solutions for people, place and planet.
Our Services
Our services are shaped to meet the needs of charities tackling environmental challenges, offering expert support with feasibility, strategy, campaign delivery and funding bids. We also bring extensive experience of National Lottery Heritage Fund projects, including Activity Planning, Evaluation and Project Management.
Feasibility & campaigns
Are you about to embark on fundraising, but concerned that your ambitions may not be achievable? We can explore and test the feasibility of your proposed project.
Our feasibility testing incorporates both quantitative and qualitative data. Every client is different and, while a tested framework is used, the approach is never formulaic. Our tailored report will provide clear recommendations and a way forward.
Fundraising relies on converting goodwill into financial support. Whether you are seeking to raise funds for a major capital project or a substantial endowment, your campaign will have specific objectives, is time-limited and is normally directed at a well-defined potential ‘constituency’ for support.
Careful preparation, detailed planning and assiduous risk management are vital. Whatever your size, ambitions or experience, we can help you prepare and manage your campaign to ensure a successful outcome.
Project & case development
Before you can fundraise, you need to have a compelling case for support with a defined and fundable project(s).
Craigmyle has substantial experience helping organisations develop their vision and strategic plans. We can advise on what’s fundable. Working with you we can establish the rationale for fundraising and draft a persuasive case for support that clearly articulates evidence of need and wider community support.
For major projects, such as preparing for an NLCF or NLHF application, we provide guidance on strengthening your organisation and project to enhance the likelihood of funding success. This could include improving beneficiary involvement, conducting community consultation, advancing EDI initiatives, and developing external partnerships.
Strategy & audits
Do you need a review or audit of your fundraising plans? Are you looking to create or develop your fundraising strategy?
Recognising that every organisation is unique, we help inform and create fundraising strategies tailored to the specific needs and goals of each client.
Our strategic development is a cost-effective, objective and inclusive process. We assess your existing activities, drawing on insights from other charities and tailoring recommendations to your needs.
Our audits provide clear findings and practical options for growth. Through strategic development, we evaluate fundraising potential, establish a strong case for support, and identify achievable targets across multiple funding sources. We also help recruit volunteer leaders to drive donor engagement.
A comprehensive report outlines actionable recommendations and a tailored fundraising strategy, equipping you with the tools to move forward effectively.
Research & bid writing
Our funding research service typically focuses on grant making trusts and foundations, other grant funding sources, national statutory bodies, and where applicable for some projects, corporate donors and high net worth individuals.
Research often leads on to our bid writing and review services, tailored to the specific level of support each client requires. An experienced Craigmyle bid reviewer can make sure that bids are robust and meet your target funder’s requirements. Alternatively, a complete bid drafting service can be carried out in partnership with clients.
We often engage in a mentoring role, leaving clients with the resources, confidence and ability to work independently in the future.
Training & mentoring
Investing in Training for Better Fundraising Performance
Investment in staff and board training and development can be the vital factor in improving fundraising success. Craigmyle consultants share our extensive knowledge and current hands-on experience to equip our clients with the skills needed to thrive in the competitive landscape of fundraising. We offer:
Training and support for Trustees and Governors
We provide tailored sessions on a range of topics, from regulation and compliance to tailored training on fundraising techniques, and skills in governing fundraising. If your board lacks fundraising expertise, we can train a member to take on this crucial role or attend meetings to offer an external perspective.
Staff Training and Mentoring
From induction for new staff to ongoing professional development, we create bespoke training packages to ensure fundraising teams—large or small—remain effective and up-to-date. For senior roles, our consultants can mentor staff, providing an external perspective that can help you be more effective in your work and engagement with donors, Trustees and other staff.
Support for Volunteer Fundraising Leaders
If you’re leading a fundraising drive as a volunteer and don’t know where to start, we’ll work with your charity to develop tailored support, ensuring your success.
Our programmes empower teams and individuals to maximise their fundraising potential.
National Lottery - Heritage Fund & Community Fund
We support organisations to navigate the opportunities and requirements of the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) and National Lottery Community Fund (NLCF), from early project development through to successful applications and delivery, with an exceptional track record of securing successful outcomes for our clients.
National Lottery Heritage Fund: We provide activity planning, audience development, community consultation, evaluation and project management for heritage projects of all sizes. We can lead or support development of community-led activity plans, and Logic Framework/Theory of Change-based evaluation plans. We are experienced in evaluating Lottery projects at pre-development, development and delivery phases.
National Lottery Community Fund: We help organisations develop projects that respond to poverty, disadvantage and discrimination, with meaningful community engagement and participation at their heart. We can assess whether Awards for All is an appropriate first step towards a larger grant, and/or support the development of larger-scale projects and funding applications.
Across both Lottery funds: We bring experience of working with charities and organisations across a wide range of sectors, helping develop strong projects, evidence need, engage communities and build compelling funding cases.
We tailor our support to your project and team, from focused advice on a specific element of an application to leading complex, multi-million-pound projects from development through to delivery.
