Since 2022, consultants have worked closely with Holy Trinity Hastings (HTH), providing three years of hands-on guidance to transform an initial glimmer of an idea into a fully funded £4.5m Heritage@HTH project. In 2025, this journey culminated in the award of a £4.5m grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, securing the future of the Grade II* Gothic Revival church and delivering lasting benefits for its community.
The Heritage@HTH project will restore both the exterior and interior of the church, safeguard and conserve treasures of national and international significance, and introduce energy efficiency and sustainability measures to ensure the building’s long-term resilience. Central to the vision is the creation of a new, curated Heritage Experience for Hastings, including innovative multi-media interpretation developed in collaboration with students from the local Further Education college.
Early seed funding from the local Heritage Action Zone enabled HTH to think bigger and more ambitiously than ever before. This momentum led to a £479,000 National Lottery Heritage Fund development grant in December 2023, supporting the detailed development of the project and the successful application for full funding.
With the full grant now secured, the Heritage@HTH project will not only save an important historic building, but also restore its treasures, reconnect people with their heritage, and bring meaningful, long-term change to the Hastings community.
